Well today was the final day of the major revamp of the two very large lantern and boy are we pleased. It was freezing cold, wet and windy up at that barn, but they are done and ready to go now. Don't forget the parade and lights switch on is Saturday 6th December from 5pm onwards. See you there, Oh and wrap up warm.

After he has sung a couple of songs, Andy will then make his way into The Harbour Tavern to set up and entertain from 7pm - 9pm. Mince Pies and Mulled Wine will be available on the jetty, kindly supplied by Pasty Presto, The Sharksfin, The Harbour Tavern and The Wheelhouse. There is also a raffle being held to raise money for the Christmas Lights by Tea On The Quay for one of their wonderful hampers full of jars of preserves, tickets are £1.00 per strip. 29/10/2014 16:07 From Mevagissey Christmas Lights Committee
We have been very busy over the last couple of weeks getting ready for the big switch on in  December. All the members of the Committee have been running around trying to get bits and pieces together for our costumes for the lantern parade and also for taking part in the Torchlight Carnival in St Austell on the 15th November (hope to see you there).
In the next few weeks we will be busy recovering our big Lady and Lighthouse Lanterns, making smaller carrying lanterns and putting in a lot of rehearsal time on something special we have in store for you all.
We are getting excited, because very soon you will start to see the lights going up around the village and there will be some new ones, you will have to come along on Saturday 6th December to see what they are. So no slacking now, it's onwards and upwards.
03/10/2014 16:58 From Mevagissey Christmas Lights Committee
Time is going so fast, it only seems five minutes since Seafest back in May and now it's time to start getting ready for the actual Lights Switch on and Parade.
As some of you May know last years switch on was hampered by the work being carried out on the Jetty, so this year we are going all out to make up for last year. Put the date in your diaries Saturday 6th December starting from around 5pm onwards with live entertainment, carol singing, the parade, then the main parade making it's way from the Fire Station on Valley Road. To cap it all there will be live entertainment in The Harbour Tavern. Our good friend Andy Marshall 1940's crooner makes his return with music from the likes of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Bing Crosby and many more, including some of your Christmas favourites.
After this wonderful event, the fun continues with a reggae night at the Social Club, Ticket for the reggae night are priced £10 and during the event they will be holding a raffle in aid of the Mevagissey Christmas Lights.

This coming Saturday is the Christmas Lights Dog Show, see poster below.

Work on the jetty is well under way and we look forward to using the extra space for all our future events, as do other event committee's in the village We imagine.
It is very exciting to be able to have such a space and the Harbour Trustee's are very kind letting us use it.

We are unable to have the jetty for Seafest this year, but the event is still going ahead and all the information you need is now uploaded, just click SEAFEST at the top of this page.
21/03/2014 12.56pm From The Seafest Crew
All is well considering the last minute changes that have been made to bring you the event this year. We really didn't know if the jetty would be finished in time, so we made the decision not to have the festival stage. We would normally book the stage around September time and have to pay a hefty deposit up front and the chances are we would lose that cash if we cancelled at the last minute. As you can guess we couldn't stand to lose that amount of money because it would mean us not being able to supply the new lights we want in the village for the Christmas display.

What a great time had by all at this years switch on. Even though it wasn't as big as we would have liked because of the building work on the jetty it still pulled in the crowds. A big thank you to everyone that turned up to watch or to help out. Here's to next year.
